One Man’s Meat

I was invited to write a story for the third Isaac’s Universe anthology, but I really didn’t see anything else in the shared world that I wanted to spin out into a story. On the other hand, I had a half-finished first-contact story I’d been working on intermittently for years that didn’t actually contradict anything in Isaac’s universe. It was intended to be more in Poul Anderson’s tradition than in Asimov’s, but I thought it had the potential to be a pretty good story.

So I reworked it a little to fit into the shared world setting, and finished it up, and here it is.
